On March 29, 2003 I worked California, Arizona and Iowa with a home-brew 1/4-wave vertical for 40 meters. SWR was 1.3:1 with only a single pruning of the vertical element.
New 40 meter vertical is a 33 foot
wire held up with an MFJ fiberglass pole. I also used a 33-foot
counterpoise wire spread behind the vehicle.
